For those who don’t know, there are five different “love languages”: words of affirmation, physical touch, quality time, receiving gifts and acts of service.
Personally, I think that writers have their own love language that only they understand, and those brave enough to love us learn how to as they go along.
It’s often mysterious and somewhat confusing, even to us, but the moment the right button is pushed… O my… we can write you tender, loving songs! We can serenade you until the sun comes up and, depending on the number of buttons pushed, even speak of the love we write about in ways where you can actually hear words coming out of our mouths.
However, in order to be able to seduce a writer effectively, you need to remember the following.
1. Leave short love notes.
It may sound corny, but trust me when I tell you that it works. If you’re not particularly amazing with words, and the idea of writing paragraphs scares the cannolis out of you, don’t worry—try Google!
You’ll find thousands of cute and somewhat corny sentences to make their day a bit brighter. Throw a note in their lunch box, leave a note under the pillow or stick one on the bathroom mirror.
Something short and sweet will do. Not only does it let us know that we’re on your mind, but you’re taking initiative (especially if writing notes isn’t something you do on a daily basis) and showing us you care about what makes us “tick.”
2. Buy quirky gifts.
We love anything related to writing! It can be a pair of socks with writing on them, a beautiful notebook and pen, a classic novel we haven’t read, jewellery proclaiming our love for writing, interesting sticky notes, beautiful stationery (if you’re old-school, a vintage typewriter would be amazing!)—the list goes on and on.
Never forget that acknowledging our love for this particular art form will put you in our good books! Once you’re in, erasing you isn’t very easy.
3. Surprise us with a writers’ retreat.
These days, finding a quiet place to sit down and think of nothing but writing can be tricky. We (or rather I) often dream of a quiet beach house overlooking a beautiful turquoise ocean and soft sand, hearing only the ambient sounds of waves crashing as we write. Most of the time, that’s not the case.
However, if you surprise us with a gift like this, we’ll most likely end up making you a lead character in the best love story ever written!
4. Learn to read a little poetry.
I’m not saying you should become the next Shakespeare—he wasn’t exactly what I’d call the most eligible bachelor—but if you want to seduce a writer, you need to learn your way around a few smouldering words.
Even if you read them word for word, that’s alright. It’s even better if you can write it yourself, but we understand if that’s not possible. The main point to remember is that as much as you fight fire with fire, you seduce a writer with words.
5. You MUST be able to hold a deep conversation.
Remember, as writers, we’re usually very deep. We thrive on conversations that stimulate our minds. We have imaginations you can’t even imagine. We’re thinkers. We can sit for hours and talk about life, our dreams and aspirations, how we think and what we feel. We think differently to others, and we often see things in a different light.
Our world can be very exciting, but also depressing at times because we see things twice as clearly as others. Perhaps it’s because we take the time to actually look. Either way, stimulating our minds is a sure way to calm us down, which is something my mind particularly appreciates.
Loving a writer can be the best experience of your life if you know how to do it properly. The opportunity doesn’t come around often, so if and when you find yourself being surprisingly intrigued by one and you’d like to pursue that, definitely pay attention to above-mentioned tips.
If you have any helpful and interesting tips you’d like to add, please feel free to share them. The more the merrier! Besides, we have to give the brave ones who choose to love us a little bit of credit and help them out. At the end of the day, it’s a win-win situation!
